The Holocaust: How easily it could have been avoided
The Holocaust could have been avoided in WWII. There was so many things that everyone outside of Germany could have done to go against the Holocaust and to help prevent it but nobody did. Nobody did anything because they all also believed some of the propaganda the Nazis shared.
First off Hitler's rise to power could have easily been avoided. After Germany lost in WWI they were left poor, broken, weak. The people of Germany hated the allied nations. Hitler used this to his advantage to persuade those in Germany. He believed that Germany could become strong again, and the people believed in him. Later they easily took power in Germany. He used his power to take over part of Czechoslovakia. Great Britain agreed to giving part of Czechoslovakia to Germany. But Germany took over all of Czechoslovakia; this was a major red flag. Why didn't the allied powers stop Germany? They let him do this which lead to him invading Poland and causing WWII and the Holocaust. All because the allied powers let him do what he wanted.
He used propaganda to degrade the Jews. Calling them Rats, greedy, money hungry etc. The fact is the German Jews did indeed surrender for Germany in WWI, Hitler used those facts to put the blame on Jews, he blamed Jews not only for the downfall of Germany, but for everything bad in the world. And the Germans population believed this. For example this poster was one of the many he used against the Jews
Before they started killing the Jews in the Gas Chambers they tried to deport them, put them in Ghettos. Matter of fact people did fight back, but it was too late. They rebelled in the Warsaw ghetto, but lost in the end.
After the ghettos the Nazi's sent the Jews to concentration camps, then sent them to the extermination camps. These were all the steps leading to the Final Solution which was where the Jews would be sent to the Gas Chambers.
Before all this Germany tried to deport the Jews and send them to other countries like here in the U.S, but we didn't take any if they weren't filthy rich. According to https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/us-government-turned-away-thousands-jewish-refugees-fearing-they-were-nazi-spies-180957324/, it states that the U.S turned away thousands of Jews. And most of the other countries also turned away the Jews.
And for the Ghettos and transportation from camp to camp they could have fought back. There was millions of Jews and I doubt Germany had that many soldiers but they didn't. And no one forced them to go to the Ghettos, if no one had gone the Nazis couldn't have enough personnel to gather EVERYONE up. But fear is what leads them to go. They let fear take over them.
And because everyone let this happen it led to Hitler announcing the Final Solution. This is where all Jews in concentration camps would be sent to extermination camps where they would be killed. In the graph below it shows the total amount of Jews killed because of the Holocaust, now that number would be extremely low if people actually helped the Jews, and they fought back, and didn't let Hitler come to power.
This graph shows how many Jews were killed in WWII and others.
As a society we need to change, we need to learn from the past, so these tragedies won't happen ever again. We need to learn to fight back, to help those in need, to make sure another grand tragedy doesn't happen once more.
